Rich chocolate cake with Guinness stout, air-fried to perfection in 40 minutes

# What You Need:

→ Dry Ingredients

01 - 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
02 - 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
03 - 1/3 cup (35 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
04 - 1 teaspoon baking soda
05 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

→ Wet Ingredients

06 - 1/2 cup (120 ml) Guinness stout, at room temperature
07 - 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
08 - 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
09 - 2 large eggs, at room temperature
10 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Optional Topping

11 - 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar, for dusting
12 - Whipped cream or chocolate ganache, for serving

# How To Make It:

01 - Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 5 minutes.
02 - Grease and line a 7-inch (18 cm) round cake pan that fits your air fryer basket.
03 - In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well blended.
04 - In another bowl, combine Guinness, buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until fully incorporated.
05 - Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
06 - Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top evenly.
07 - Place the pan into the preheated air fryer basket. Cook for 23–27 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
08 - Remove the cake from the air fryer and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
09 - Dust with powdered sugar before serving, or top with whipped cream or chocolate ganache if desired.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The Guinness creates these incredible deep caramel notes that make you look like a much more sophisticated baker than you actually are
  • The air fryer gives you a moist tender crumb in half the time with practically zero effort
02 -
  • Cold ingredients will seize your melted butter and create weird little lumps that never bake out
  • Overmixing develops gluten and makes this tender cake tough as a hockey puck
03 -
  • Check your air fryer basket height before starting because nothing is sadder than batter you cannot bake
  • Rotate the pan halfway through if your air fryer has a hot spot for even rising
